DAILY READINGS: Judges 1 to 2:5; Isaiah 21 to 22:14; 1 Corinthians 1

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame. Proverbs 10:5

The wise son gathered at an appropriate time, “summer”. He acted wisely and brought honour to his parents and family, but those who sleep in harvest cause shame. The word shame here means, “regret or consciousness of guilt”. We are living in the day of grace. Our Lord said the fields are white unto harvest. Therefore, now is the time to be wise sons and daughters, being productive for the Lord, gathering glory, honour and praise unto Him who alone is worthy of such. —Jerry Proctor

O ye saints arouse, be earnest, up and work while yet tis day,
Ere the night of death o’er-take thee, strive for souls while you may.—George C Stebbins
