DAILY READINGS: Exodus 32; Psalms 81-82; Acts 19:21-41

And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come
over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned
unto his own place. 2 Samuel 19:39

Barzillai’s days were coming to an end. He had faithfully served
David his king, providing much-needed resources at a crucial time in
Israel’s history. Now it was time for the next generation to act.
Knowing his limitations, Barzillai requested that Chimham take his
place, which was agreed to by David, who blessed his loving, loyal
servant with a kiss. Beloved, faithful service rendered to the King at
the time it was needed will never be forgotten, and will be gratefully
acknowledged with a kiss from the King. —Mark Kolchin

The battle’s fought, the race is won, and thou art crowned at last.—J. Wesley
